About Me

Hi, I’m Melissa.

I’m first and foremost a mom to a special girl, Elianna Grace who was born with Adam’s Oliver Syndrome, which is a mix of congenital heart disease issues and cutis aplasia and a recently born son, Wyatt James.

Ellie’s special health needs are why I ultimately pivoted my coaching practice to become very personalized using functional lab testing. Prior to becoming a mom, I had been health coaching and teaching fitness classes for over 7 years, but was always a bit frustrated that things that worked great for one client had zero effect on another.

It seemed that our “generic wellness advice” of the moment was just that…of this moment and didn’t last for long. Through the years, I’ve seen clients try (and have tried personally!) low-carb, intermittent fasting, vegetarian/vegan, macro counting, HIIT exercise, low-impact exercise, low-fat diets….you name it! I got to the point where I wanted to SPECIFICALLY help each person as an individual, but didn’t know how to truly get a look inside their bodies to do so.

This really became front and center to me when she was born with health issues AND I felt like absolute crap postpartum. I realized that as “healthy” as I thought I was with diet and exercise may not have been as healthy as I could have been prior to getting pregnant…and that things could have been better had I gotten to the root cause before conceiving.

This is where Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® (FDN) came into play. As an FDN-P, I’m able to run functional lab testing that takes a deep look at the actual function within the body in numerous ways, instead of just traditional bloodwork at the doctor’s office.

So many people don’t “feel right” and are in disbelief when their doctors tell them everything is “fine” based on their bloodwork.

I was one of those people. I pushed myself for many years working high-stress jobs in an over-scheduled life and eventually started to feel the toll it had taken on my body. I went to a doctor and ran labs that came back “normal”- yet I still felt like crap.

Thankfully during my transition to becoming a FDN-P I was able to run functional labs on myself, learning that my hormones were completely depleted, I was in an exhaustive state, I had several gut pathogens, severe leaky gut and numerous food sensitivities…and this is coming from someone who has been very health conscious for years! This was a huge wakeup call in realizing that what may be healthy for someone else may actually be poisonous for my body.

It also made me take a step back and realize that health is a much bigger,  interconnected web than I previously thought.

It’s easy to think that your hormones may be your only issue…or your digestive issues…or your skin problems…but ALL are likely interrelated and influencing one another.

So, prior to this when I was just removing foods I was sensitive to, I was likely reducing my symptoms (digestive issues), but never actually fixing the ROOT of my issues (leaky gut & pathogens). You can continue to dabble with different supplements, treatments, and doctors to try and get relief, but you likely will never get to the root of the problem. That’s the beauty of functional lab testing- it actually allows us to look deeper and find correlations with issues that you may have never realized are related!

Because of my own experience and the frustration so many of my clients have shared over the years, I am so thankful to be able to now provide such personalized testing and lifestyle recommendations that I can confidently say will change your life. I honestly believe that I was put on this earth to navigate the health challenges I have so that I could be equipped to help others on their own journey. I am down-to-earth and realistic- I know that Rome wasn’t built in a day and that change is hard, but it can be done and it is SO worth it! I would be honored to help you solve your health problems and optimize your health so you can be fully present in your life for your work and those you love.
