Low-Toxin Guide: Tips + Resources

Why Care About Toxins?

It is estimated that everyone today carries at least 700 contaminants– most of which have not been well-studied. Further, infants are born with over 230+ chemicals in their cord blood!

Many of these contaminants are hard to get rid of from our environments and they are still showing up in our bodies decades after being banned. I hope just these small statistics open up your eyes to the fact that ignoring what is in our environment is likely killing us (slowly).

Below are some highlights on why they matter, regulation issues and overall where our exposure is coming from:

Top Toxins to Avoid

You may now understand the importance of avoiding toxic chemicals, metals, etc. in your life but where do you start? What do you look for? How do you know what in your home/environment IS toxic?

Though none of us will likely ever live a totally toxin free life, there are a few top toxins to start watching out for:

Top Tips to Reduce Your Toxic Burden

Though toxins are NEVER going to be fully avoidable, the good news is that many sources of toxic exposure come from places that we DO have control over, such as the products we buy and the choices we make.

It is nearly impossible to keep up with all the new chemicals being released daily, or what pesticides our neighbors spray on their lawns or what they put down at parks, but what we CAN do is control what we are bringing into and using in our home environment.

Resources for Finding Clean Products

As more and more of us are becoming aware of the toxins lurking in many of our household and personal care products, more and more “clean” options are becoming available (so many it can be hard to keep up). As the majority of us will never become PhD level chemists, it can be hard to know if a product marketed to you as “clean” is ACTUALLY clean.

Below are some resources I share with clients to start with learning what products to choose and what may be in your current products:
